Celgene Corporation seeks a Corporate Counsel, Early Research and Development Transactions.  The position will be located at Celgene’s headquarters in Summit, New Jersey or Celgene’s San Diego site.  The successful candidate will partner with and support Celgene’s R&D functions in drafting and negotiating non-clinical R&D agreements, including SRAs, MTAs, licenses, collaborations (including academic collaborations), service agreements, consulting agreements, NDAs, and other agreements in support of the R&D function.  The candidate should also be comfortable providing clients counsel on various issues ranging from interpretation of R&D agreements to strategic, operational and commercial matters. 

Qualified candidates will have a minimum of 5+ years of experience from a law firm and/or in-house counsel experience. Candidates must have a proven ability to handle a large volume of agreements and competing priorities.  If located in Summit, New Jersey, travel to Celgene’s San Diego site will be required monthly.

Knowledge and Skills Required:

  • Must have a J.D. and be admitted to at least one state bar.  An advanced degree in chemistry or biological sciences is preferred but not required.

  • At least 5+ years of experience in a law firm and/or in-house drafting, counseling on and negotiating agreements, primarily IP-related transactions in the biotechnology or pharmaceutical industry, and advising clients on business and legal issues.

  • Strong understanding of related intellectual property matters.

  • Ability to prioritize and multi-task, processing multiple projects to satisfactory completion.

  • Ability to appropriately balance legal and business objectives.

  • Attention to detail.

  • Excellent communication skills.

  • Strong leadership skills.
