Essential Functions:

  • Full P&L responsibility; maximizing sales and profit growth.
  • Drive the growth of the Mexican business by establishing sales goals for existing products, successfully launching new products, establishing and managing effective key operational partnerships in line with the strategic guidance from the LATAM General Manager.
  • Analyze the Mexican markets in which the company competes or will compete, in order to propose and implement operational plans that will maximize business in Mexico and protect margin.
  • Maintain strong relationships with country specific and global external stakeholders (Ministry of Health, IMSS, ISSSTE, COFEPRIS, AMIIF, CANIFARMA, etc. )
  • Establish growth and profit expectations.  Submit realistic but ambitious budgets and obtain approval, balancing investments to maximize product   portfolio revenues and margin.
  • Ensure that forecasted objectives are achieved with effective financial planning. Continually review financial results to identify negative variances; develop action plans to     address issues.  Manage expenses to budget and deliver targeted margin contribution.
  • Lead and appropriately direct all elements of government affairs for Mexico in the areas of government sales, execution of the strategy for the inclusion of the portfolio in the different national formulary lists, secure institutional budged allocation for the different products in the portfolio, utilize the different pharmacoeconomical tools for market access, with a proven record of achievement in senior management  quality-focused environment
  • Provide strategic and operational leadership in government sales –market access and in public affairs/corporate relations to governments, negotiations with private insurance companies, professional societies, and general public.
  • Collaborate with Market Access Lead to ensure the optimization of reimbursement for all products. This includes establishing national market access strategies and lobbying key decision makers to favorably influence public sector drug policy decisions.
  • Initiates and organizes high level to support Government/Public Affairs activities
  • Ensure that Celgene products value is recognized by the payors, including pricing and reimbursement national authorities.  Defend the cost-effectiveness of Celgene therapeutics and ensure that Celgene’s interests are maximized during government price and tax settings.
  • Manage the critical linkage between late stage development, commercial planning launch       management, ongoing sales support, marketing and medical affairs.
  • Ensure marketing talent is best-in-class in the key therapeutic areas and that sales assets are   appropriately targeted and incentives to maximize top-line growth.
  • Ensure Celgene has best-in-class representation in pricing and reimbursement negotiations. Support the development and maintenance of trustful and professional relations between the Chairman and related government officials in this area.
  • Ensure medical talent is best-in-class in key current and future therapeutic areas to ensure     generation of key medical data, effective dissemination of results, Key Opinion Leaders partnerships.
  •  Ensure resources and processes are in place to ensure safe use of Celgene’s products and pharmacovigilence duties.
  • Ensure that Mexico contributes to global development of new indications or new products through an effective and nimble clinical operations team.
  • Ensure regulatory affairs are empowered, exert compliance as per Mexican regulations and   are aggressively engaged to deliver on time to market of new indications and products. Ensure strong relationships with Mexican Regulatory Authorities.
  • Be a highly collaborative player in the relationships with the LATAM management team.
  • Develops the Mexican affiliate capabilities and lead the affiliate operations with confidence simplicity, passion and high energy
  • Lead through personal example.  Live Celgene Values and Culture.  Create open and effective internal communication and foster teamwork.
  • Coach, develop, mentor and retain a highly motivated and energetic Mexican operational       management team.  Lead an efficient talent management planning and attract additional talents as necessary.  Set clear expectations, give appropriate autonomy and measure performance.
  • Recruit, hire, organize, and align affiliate resources to deliver the plan.  Design appropriate performance metrics and achieve accountability.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:

  • Successful operational management experience with direct operational responsibility over a senior management team, and a demonstrated track record of delivering top line growth and bottom line performance.
  • Healthcare ecosystem understanding: Monitoring and understanding the healthcare macro environment both at a local and regional level.
    • Broad knowledge of the pharmaceutical industry and specific expertise in multiple therapeutic areas.  Knowledge of the science, clinical practices, market dynamics, competitive products, competitive selling strategies, etc.
    • Business Acumen: Understanding the business trade-offs based on corporate strategic goals
    • Eperience in specialty products is required. 
  • Executive commercial experience with pharmaceutical products (acquiring, developing, registering, launching, life cycle management.
  • Extensive experience with Mexican regulatory requirements and other Mexican approval process is highly desirable.
  • Strategic thinking: Celgene’s business strategy embedded into decisions in an effective and efficient way
  • Documented successful responsibility and experience in maximizing P&L in Mexico for a leading pharmaceutical company or large biotech.

Education & Experience:

  • A minimum of 10-15 years experience in a variety of sales, marketing, business development and general management roles of progressively greater scope and responsibility. 
  • Extensive commercial experience with pharmaceutical products (acquiring, developing, registering, launching, life cycle management.) as well as experience with Mexican regulatory requirements and other Mexican approval process is highly desirable.
  • Deep background in sales, sales management and in line marketing.
  • Prior relevant experience in the Ocology / Hematology therapeutic area in Mexico is highly preferred
  • Graduate degree in Business, Marketing,  Science or any related career is required.
  • Master of Business Administration, MBA is a plus
  • Fluency in spoken and written English and Spanish is required.
