Minimum Bachelor’s degree required, Scientific/Medical discipline preferred. A minimum of 7 years medical education experience required, preferably within industry.

Hematology/Oncology experience preferred.

Expert knowledge of OIG, AMA, ACCME and PhRMA guidelines.

Certification in Healthcare Continuing Professional Development Professional (CHCP) preferred.

This individual will work closely with the Senior Director, Scientific Education to develop, disseminate and implement medical education strategy effectively and compliantly and support other scientific events (OSE) grants aligned to their assigned therapeutic area (TA) or disease state(s). In addition, the Associate Director (AD), Scientific Education will be a key lead for operations related support (eg outcomes, monthly reports) and related Scientific Education projects and enhancements. This individual will work cross-functionally with identified partners to manage short and long term priorities according to established business needs.

Responsibilities include, but are not limited to, the following:


Collaborate with grant coordinators and leadership regarding the grant process and system to build efficiencies and support collection of reportable data. Collaborate with grant managers to centralize the collection of education outcome reports, outcome publication plans and monthly reports with an emphasis on state of the art data capture. Support the Sr. Director with scientific education operation enhancements with a strong focus on the grant system and process automation. Participate and/or lead scientific education related projects and activities with particular attention to grant operations, report enhancements, and innovative education to support quality/value based healthcare aims. Monitor the health care environment and scientific education community relating to therapeutic area quality measures, National Quality Strategy and related trends and assist management in the development of strategy in these areas.  With support from the Sr. Director, support as-needed training to extended scientific education team. Provide training and insights to medical affairs and other internal stakeholders as needed.

Independent Medical Education

Develop medical education needs assessments and medical education plan(s) in assigned therapeutic area (TA) or disease state(s) including development and management of the assigned TA medical education budget. Manage and implement the agreed upon medical education strategy by performing ongoing assessments of TA-supported programs to determine whether learning objectives have been met on an annual basis and to gain insight to inform future annual medical education strategy. Gain knowledge of clinical and medical activities through cross functional interactions and environmental scanning in respective TA both internally and externally. Concurrently identify trends/practice changes that will help drive strategic direction of department. Ensure strong scientific bridge between educational program outcomes data and programs supported by the Celgene Scientific Education through systematic assessment of data within assigned TA. Provide ongoing assessment of medical education providers to ensure maximum compliance and program quality. Evaluate new medical education companies based on established ACCME criteria with a focus on program design, desired results of activities, analysis of outcomes, and inclusion of pt centered outcomes. Keep current with ACCME and PhRMA guidances, as well as FDA, OIG or state guidance and monitor for updates.  Continued development of knowledge in the areas of adult learning principles (ALPs) and effective educational design.

Skills/Knowledge Required:

  • Ability to build strategic value of medical education across the organization by building and maintaining exceptional, collaborative business relationships with cross-functional TA teams.
  • Demonstrates advanced understanding of adult learning principles, effective educational design and how to integrate this into annual medical education plans and strategy.
  • Exceptional ability to synthesize and analyze information from supported medical education programs (educational outcomes data and other grant related reports) and distill information into valuable deliverables.
  • Demonstrated ability to understand and effectively communicate scientific information in the context of HCP gaps and ummet educational needs.
  • Demonstrated ability to coordinate and implement simultaneous projects within a complex matrix environment.
  • Advanced comprehension of heme/onc, inflammation and immunology disease states, clinical pipeline and registration pathways.
  • Excellent verbal, written communication and presentation skills
  • Demonstrated computer skills (able to create highly effective Microsoft Office

            documents and work with relevant database and IT systems)

  • Ability to prioritize projects and demonstrates subsequent time management
  • Travel required (15%)
