Position summary:

A convergence of healthcare ecosystem forces, mandates that Celgene transforms its approach to harnessing data and using its derived insights to drive decision-making, which is the vision of the Celgene iKU (Information, Knowledge, Utilization) function. The objective of iKU is to continuously drive the adoption of data-driven decision-making and analytics throughout the entire organization (primarily focusing on internal business insights leaders and internal/external data scientists). To this end, iKU has developed Synapse:  a cutting edge big data analytics platform with enterprise applications built upon a growing base of RWD. The Synapse platform has been built with the goal of significantly increasing the number of individuals who can work directly with big data, beyond the highly-specialized data scientist.

The Associate Director of iKU Enablement is a key role for iKU and is responsible for the formation and execution of a comprehensive enablement strategy spanning product management, training, onboarding, and education to support ongoing adoption of iKU.  In addition, this individual will need to possess business acumen to assist in ensuring a business lens is applied from an end-to-end perspective across the  iKU platform.

The ideal candidate will be hands-on, action-oriented and have experience in change management and rolling out new solutions within a large organization. S/he will be experienced in analytics and have proven collaboration capabilities across functional teams of business leaders, IT business partners, business analysts, data managers, project managers, clinical scientists, operational staff, and physicians. The candidate has demonstrated ability to actively listen, prioritize and integrate input from diverse sources and successfully understand medical or business objectives, questions and skillsets to translate this development and execution of tailored enablement plans to support adoption of the capability.

This role will be required to maintain a scientific understanding of healthcare data, internal data harmonization standards, and iKU processes from data generation, collection, integration, ingestion to related systems and technologies.

Overall responsibilities include:

  • Provide end-to-end product management leadership and coordination across individual product owners, business stakeholders and IT to prioritize and implement new platform functionality, ensuring requirements and functionality are business driven and meeting the needs of the business stakeholders.
    • Establish a system for the continuous collection and incorporation of user feedback to fuel the improvement of the Synapse platform
  • Develop and execute the Synapse platform adoption plan.
    • Identify priority business groups and use case opportunities to be enabled by Synapse Analyzer apps and tools
    • Work with business groups to identify hands-on users to be trained and on-boarded onto the Synapse Analyzer platform, including best practices of working with data in the Analyzer tools.
    • Manage the follow-through of identified use cases enabled by the Analyzer apps and tools to measure the rate and success of adoption.
  • Develop and execute on the iKU training strategy.
    • Develop, maintain, conduct and coordinate the Synapse platform training curriculum; pulling in the appropriate internal and external subject matter expertise where needed. This includes coordination of in-person training programs and development and maintenance of self-guided modules.
    • Maintain the communication and availability of training offerings including management of the iKU Training Website.
    • Establish a first-class Data Science Curriculum for both external and internal candidates tapping into talented and/or future to be Data Scientists. The Curriculum should ideally complement academic curriculums (ex. “Master program in Data Science”, “Certificate of Advanced Studies in Data Science”) with a hands-on industry experience.
  • Lead the Data Sciences Community of Practice (CoP) and any other associated CoP for business leaders.  Data Science CoP is a company-wide forum focused on best-practices, education on data and the latest innovations in data sciences.
  • Work in a fast-paced multidisciplinary, dynamic environment, and as necessary create examples, prototypes, demonstrations to help the business better understand innovative solutions

  • 3-5+ years of experience in pharmaceutical / biotechnology / healthcare industry with significant experience in successfully translating and connecting business needs to data driven insights  
  • Strong communication skills and focus on achieving business value
  • Advanced degree preferred (MS., MPH, or higher) in Biostatistics, Epidemiology, Computer Science, Informatics, Mathematics, or related field with a statistical component; or postdoctoral fellowship and/or accredited training in data-related sciences
  • Familiarity with R or Python
  • Working knowledge of SQL and relational databases
  • Experience with Hadoop platforms (ex Cloudera, Hortonworks) and related “big data” technologies is a plus
  • Experience working in cloud computing environments (ex AWS, Azure, etc) is a plus
  • Experience analyzing data from traditional healthcare databases (electronic medical records, claims, etc) is a plus
  • Experience in driving learning and adoption of new solutions within a large organization
