Position summary:

A convergence of healthcare ecosystem forces mandates that Celgene transforms its approach to harnessing data and using its derived insights to drive decision-making, which is the vision of the Celgene iKU (Information, Knowledge, Utilization) function. The iKU data sciences team supports multiple functions including Clinical Operations, Clinical Development, Medical Affairs, Drug Safety, HEOR/ Pricing and Market Access, and Commercial organization through data provisioning and advanced analytics to address clinical or business questions.

The Director is a hands-on leadership member of IKU’s data sciences team. In addition to conducting high-quality statistical and/or machine learning analyses utilizing real world evidence (RWE) and other healthcare-related data sources, this position is responsible for mentoring and helping to develop other members of the team.

The ideal candidate will be a seasoned informatician with multiple years of experience leading and managing large-scale data analysis projects. The candidate must be hands-on, action oriented and have proven collaboration capabilities across functional teams of business partners, business analysts, data managers, project managers, clinical scientists, operational staff, and physicians. The candidate has demonstrated ability to actively listen, integrate input from diverse sources and successfully translate medical or business questions into data and analytics requirements, and deliver suitable solutions.

This role will be required to maintain a deep scientific understanding of healthcare data, from data generation, collection, integration, to related systems and technologies. This role will actively seek to identify ways to bring innovative solutions to those challenges and ensure they are aligned with our real world evidence and data utilization strategy.

Overall responsibilities include:

  • Works with iKU leadership to build world class data sciences capability, in close collaboration with business areas
  • Personally executes on analytics projects supporting iKU and RWE strategies
  • Translates clinical or business questions to specific needs in data and analytics.
  • Provides suitable data and analytics as required to address the clinical or business question
  • Contributes to strategy development by identifying both short and long-term business needs in data assets and analytical solutions from customers in clinical and commercial organizations
  • Interprets data analysis results in clinical or business context, and articulates the implications of the results to the business function
  • Works in a fast-paced multidisciplinary, dynamic environment, and as necessary creates examples, prototypes, demonstrations to help the business better understand innovative solutions

  • 10+ years experience in pharmaceutical / biotechnology / healthcare industry and proven excellence in applying data mining, visualization, predictive modeling, and statistical methodology to real world problems.
  • Advanced degree (MSc., MPH, PhD) in Biostatistics, Epidemiology, Computer Science, Informatics, Mathematics, or related field with a substantial statistical component; or postdoctoral fellowship and/or accredited training in data-related sciences with a substantial statistical component
  • Advanced hands-on knowledge of R and/or Python
  • Working knowledge of SQL and relational databases
  • Experience with Hadoop platforms (ex Cloudera, Hortonworks) and related “big data” technologies is preferred
  • Experience working in cloud computing environments (ex AWS, Azure, etc) is preferred

Experience analyzing data from traditional healthcare databases (electronic medical records, claims, etc) is preferred
