Purpose of the Position:

The Director of Global Benefits will lead the Global Benefits team, which include US Benefits and Wellness, International Benefits and Global Mobility.  Under the supervision of the Executive Director of Global Benefits and HR Operations, this role must act as a champion for excellence in benefits design and operations to ensure the greatest value for our employees around the world (Americas, Europe, Asia Pacific).

This position will work closely with internal and external partners to ensure that our benefits and programs support our employees, and ultimately meet our business objectives.  The ideal candidate will possess exceptional Benefits technical and communications skills, with a proven ability as both a leader and valued team player. 

Essential Functions:

Lead the Global Benefits team (including Global Mobility) as they design and deliver various health and welfare benefits, retirement benefits and wellness programs

  • Ensure benefit programs are competitive within pharmaceutical industry and continue to drive toward innovative programs to support the health and wellbeing of our employees and their families
  • Analyze potential benefits changes from a company and employee impact
  • Understand internal and external landscape for benefits, including potential legislative changes impacting employer-provided benefits
  • Maintain benchmarking and surveys as a tool to support or review new or changing benefits
  • Develop communications strategy for Global Benefits and oversee implementation
  • Meet with internal and/or stakeholders to review and gain feedback on any new or changing programs, as necessary
  • With Benefits Operations and HR Operations, ensure programs are executed with operational excellence
  • Oversee Global Mobility team as they ensure the program in place continues to support business needs and is operationalized with excellence
  • Anticipate changes within and align to Celgene’s business needs to attract and retain talent

Required Competencies-Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Proven ability to design and implement large scale initiatives within a collaborative environment
  • Advanced ability to operate in a highly fluid and complex environment that requires adaptability, decisiveness and an ability to effectively work with and across all levels of the business and in a matrix environment.
  • Advanced ability to manage multiple priorities at a brisk pace and with accuracy.
  • Strong understanding of interdependencies between program and system design; as well as legal, tax and financial implications of benefits programs worldwide
  • Excellent communication skills, ability to present complex issues in a manner that is easy to understand
  • Must have strong interpersonal skills and an ability to establish and maintain credibility with employees and senior leaders

Education & Experience:

  • Minimum 10+ years of progressive experience with a multinational corporation within US Benefits and International Benefits
  • Experience with Global Mobility or Domestic Relocation is a plus, but not required
  • Advanced subject matter expertise in benefits, including oversight of compliance within US with ERISA, HIPAA, Affordable Care Act, etc
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Outlook, Excel and PowerPoint
