Core Responsibilities:

  • Oversees the general operations of the Global Medical Content and Channels function to ensure high quality performance and continuous process improvement. Utilizes effective project and people management skills to ensure achievement of department goals and objectives.
  • Responsible for establishing standards and processes for the development of global medical communications plans across therapeutic area(s) inclusive of communication gaps, strategies, deliverables and priorities, and ensures optimal execution of plans
  • Builds strong collaboration with global/regional/local Medical Affairs and Global Scientific Communications teams/functional leads to ensure alignment of global medical communications plans with medical affairs and data dissemination (publication, congress) plans
  • Partners with global/regional/local medical customer facing teams/functional leads (Medical Information, Field-based Medical) to establish processes and best practices for regularly assessing customer inquiry trends and medical customer insights, and intimately understand customer needs for scientific information and diverse content types (e.g., infographics, multimedia, interactive pdfs, etc); aligns communications plans across therapeutic areas accordingly
  • Responsible for the review and approval of various medical content deliverables including global medical information response documents, global medical affairs slide decks, product-related Q&As, and content for medical learning purposes. Ensures accuracy, currency, and scientific balance of content, in keeping with established policies and procedures
  • Applies expert project, financial and vendor management skills to manage project timelines, annual functional budget.  Oversees the management of all vendors supporting the group.  Screens appropriate vendors, evaluates and approves proposals to ensure appropriate selection and project management with respect to budget.  Oversees ongoing management of relationship and continually evaluates KIPs and adherence to standards as well as the balance of in-house vs external management of projects to maximize department resources and synergies of content utilization across multiple content types. 
  • Identifies opportunities to enhance the team’s ability to search, critically evaluate, synthesize and package scientific data in meaningful formats to facilitate information exchange through multiple personal and non-personal communication channels
  • Leads efforts to identify, design and implement tools and technologies to drive the quality development and publishing of medical content, globally.  Continually assesses and communicates the effectiveness of these technologies and associated process improvements and synergies. 
  • Oversees the development of a strategic, comprehensive multi-channel medical communications plan aligned with company and Corporate Medical Affairs strategy, goals and objectives and ensures effective implementation of initiatives accompanied by relevant success measures.  Ensures awareness of trends (within and outside of Pharma) in the design and implementation of novel communications channels, databases and technology.
  • Establishes processes and best practices for obtaining market research and insights on medical customer information seeking habits, globally; identifies opportunities for the utilization of insights in the creation of new communications channels and content types
  • Leads the identification, creation and implementation of departmental SOPs necessary to achieve organizational objectives and for complying with government regulations and company policy.
  • Develops and empowers a high-performing team that proactively seeks learning opportunities to promote professional growth while meeting business needs.  Continually seeks and matches business initiatives/stretch assignments to individual development plans.  Provide vision, direction and serve as mentor to the team. 
  • Acts as liaison/represents Global Medical Content and Channels at intra- and interdepartmental meetings, participating in decisions that impact the overall medical and commercial support of products within the therapeutic teams.
  • Drives decisions that affect the overall workload, strategies, functional capabilities, and operations of the Medical Communications and Channels group. Establishes the long-range goals and objectives for the department, including making decisions regarding process improvements, resources, policies and procedures.
  • Makes decisions regarding personnel, including the hiring of exempt/non-exempt staff, disciplinary actions and performance appraisals.
  • Participates in mentoring, coaching and training of new and existing colleagues.  Serves as a role-model for team members and provides them with strategic and technical/functional guidance
  • Performs other responsibilities as assigned by supervisor.

  • Completes all assigned SOPs and training within designated timeframe and adheres to job-specific SOPs and work instructions.
  • Identifies and reports any adverse events (AEs) in accordance with Corporate policy and procedures.   
  • Conducts/assists in the overall training of new Global Medical Content and Channels personnel and students in graduate experiential programs to ensure key activities are incorporated as part of the training.
  • Attends external meetings and educational seminars to broaden therapeutic area knowledge and pharmaceutical industry acumen.
  • Dedicated to continuous learning to broaden therapeutic area knowledge and pharmaceutical industry acumen.

  • Some travel required to represent company at medical conferences, presentations, and other meetings
